Since 1977, the People's Literature Publishing House has compiled and published an annual selection of short stories and novellas. The two annual selections were once deeply loved by readers and had a wide influence in the literary world and among readers. After 1994, this work was interrupted. At the beginning of the 21st century, we decided to resume the compilation and publication of the annual selection of medium-length and short stories, and to recommend excellent medium-length and short stories to readers. "2024 Short Stories" is produced by the editorial department of the People's Literature Publishing House. Three generations of editors have been relaying the selection for more than 20 years, deeply in-depth in the contemporary Chinese literary scene, and carefully selected many works from the short stories published in domestic literary journals in the previous year. It brings together the most creative writers of the three generations of old, middle-aged and young people, 25 novelists, and 25 short stories, reflecting the myriad aspects of the world with the crystal heart of the novel,
