This book contains eight fictional stories. Among them, the four fictional stories, "The Master of Green Grinding," "The Master of Green Grinding II: Meteorite," "The Master of Green Grinding III: Fat Hips," and "The Master of Green Grinding IV: Restoration," focus on the unsatisfactory realities of ordinary people and the impulse to beautify life through a "filter." These four fictional stories accurately depict the lives of migrants in the city. "My" life as a migrant worker in Beijing is so precarious, with dreams falling into the mud of reality. The other four stories, "The Substitute," tell the story of "my" experience as a migrant worker in Beijing and my ties to my hometown, extending from social identity to the mother-son relationship, presenting the complex emotions of parents who both care for and resent their children; in "Let's Dance Together," "I" am assigned to deal with a holdout in a demolition dispute, questioning the choices between justice and self-interest in human nature.
