This book is Yang Jiang's representative novel, set against the backdrop of the first ideological remolding movement for intellectuals after the liberation. It tells the story of the personal circumstances and ideological changes of intellectuals, examining and reflecting on this ideological remolding. Shi Zhecun said: "The characters in *Bathing* are all from *The Scholars*. However, the best part, the love triangle between Xu Yancheng, Du Lilin, and Yao Mi, is something Wu Jingzi could not have written." The German translator of this book is the sinologist Mo Yijia, who previously translated *Fortress Besieged* into German. The German translation of *Bathing* is faithful and fluent, and well reflects the style of the original work.
