In September of the 47th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign (1708), Crown Prince Yinreng was deposed during an imperial tour, thus beginning a succession struggle that lasted for more than a decade. After ascending the throne, the Yongzheng Emperor personally supervised the compilation of the Kangxi Emperor's history, providing an official account of this conflict and the figures involved. However, both then and in later generations, this official narrative has never ceased to be questioned. This book begins with a set of records kept in Rome for over three hundred years, made by missionaries who frequented the Qing court. It comprehensively utilizes traditional documents such as Qing court archives, official records, and private notes to unearth and restore a large number of historical details that have been concealed and falsified. It also uncovers much evidence of the Yongzheng Emperor's systematic cleanup of historical records, bringing a series of unprecedented new stories to the succession struggle during the Kangxi Emperor's reign. At the same time, it deeply reveals how the Yongzheng Emperor manipulated history and buried the truth.
