"I Can't Get Out of My Night" is a diary of visiting during illness, and also a meditation on aging, death, and mother-daughter relationships. It records Anne Erno's attempt to help her mother recover from Alzheimer's disease, but it was ultimately futile, as well as the guilt, fear, frustration and reconciliation she felt during the care process. "I can't get out of my night" was the last sentence written by the author's mother.
