This is a popular historical work that tells the twists and turns of several scholar-officials in the late Ming Dynasty. The book focuses on six scholars in the south of the Yangtze River in the late Ming Dynasty. In the book, they faced threats from many sides, either due to court disputes or due to discord in the countryside. In the least, their status was lost, their belongings were scattered, and in more serious cases, they were even forced to Dead end. Their similar experiences illustrate the tremendous social changes in the Jiangnan region during the late Ming Dynasty. The prosperous and peaceful Jiangnan region in people's impressions also declined due to the general trend of the times. The author Tang Yuanpeng used the story of scholar-bureaucrats to introduce the dilemma of Jiangnan in the late Ming Dynasty. He followed his writing method of seeing the big from the small and pointed out the historical truth in vivid and humorous language.
