This book collects the first eight pieces and selects the subsequent 18, including "In the Mountain Gorge," "On the Pine Ridge," and "Mountain Pastoral." In the 1920s, the author journeyed south from Chengdu, passing through Yunnan and then wandering through Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. He describes these personal experiences and observations in the form of a novel, reflecting the diverse lives of the working class, vagrants, and impoverished people of the time, while also striving to uncover the true, kind, and beautiful qualities within them, the "pure gold of their nature."
