This book argues that finance is reshaping the economy in three ways: First, financialization has created too many financial intermediaries - a variety of financial products do not contribute to economic value, they are merely tools for financial institutions to extract resources. Second, companies are increasingly investing resources in areas such as investment, reducing investment in core businesses, which in turn weakens companies' demand for labor and causes employment difficulties for ordinary workers. Third, financialization has weakened the organizations that share risks in the original social structure. The employment guarantees, retirement benefits, medical care and other guarantees that were originally borne by trade unions, large enterprises and the government are increasingly transferred to families, resulting in people being able to obtain these guarantees only through market-based financial services.
