This book is a crash course for foreigners who are just starting to learn Chinese. It consists of 40 lessons in the first and second volumes, and 8 review lessons. The 40 lessons include nearly 30 communicative function items such as "greeting" and "getting acquainted", about 800 new words and basic Chinese grammar. Each lesson is divided into six parts: sentences, conversations, replacement and expansion, new words, grammar, and exercises. The fourth edition has revised some of the content and added new words and new things that appear in today's social life, such as "WeChat, express delivery", etc., which has given this classic textbook a new vitality.
