This book is the final installment of Guan Renshan's "Trilogy on the Fate of Chinese Peasants" (including *The Vastness of Heaven and Earth*, *The Wheat River*, and *The Sun*). With an epic grandeur and breadth of vision, it chronicles the plight and reflections of peasants separated from their land during the modernization of rural China, and attempts to decipher the millennia-old codes hidden within the folds of the Chinese countryside through historical rational reflection. *The Sun* continues the realistic problem-solving consciousness of the first two parts, using a realistic narrative of rural life as its main thread, structured using the "twelve-tone system" of traditional Chinese music, and employing the "Mao Ga Zi" (a mythical creature) and the twenty-eight constellations of traditional Chinese culture to construct a romantic symbolic image full of poetic imagination as a secondary thread. The main and secondary threads echo each other, giving wings to realistic writing rooted in the soil. The work is rich in the atmosphere of daily life.
