Liang Hong focuses her writing on trapped teenagers—children who have dropped out of school or are on leave due to emotional problems, as well as those struggling on the verge of dropping out or becoming depressed. She spent three years traveling to megacities, medium-sized cities, county towns, and rural areas, visiting families, schools, social education institutions, and mental health facilities. She conducted immersive interviews with children, parents, teachers, doctors, and psychologists, recording their authentic voices in an attempt to present a psychological landscape of contemporary Chinese youth.
