This book is a collection of essays by Shuang Xuetao. It is divided into four parts: Part One contains nine essays by the author addressed to writing enthusiasts, sharing his practical experiences in reading and writing, from the beginning and atmosphere of a novel to character development, imagery and language, endings and revisions; Part Two uses interviews the author gave overseas as a thread to discuss the cultural challenges faced by Chinese writers when their works are published abroad; Part Three uses successful film and television adaptations as a starting point to elaborate on his understanding of film and literature as art forms, and the relationship between novel texts and film and television adaptations; Part Four is a selection of essays, notes, and interviews related to his creative work published over the past ten years since he resigned from his job to begin freelance writing in 2012.
