"The New Yorker" is a series of novels that Mr. Pai Hsien-yung started writing in the 1960s. It is a collection of short stories that brings together the author's early masterpieces and new works in his later years. It is composed of six novels, of which "The Exiled Immortal" and "The Complaint of the Exiled Immortal" were written in the 1960s, "Nocturne" and "Ashes" were published in the 1970s and 1980s, and "Danny Boy" and "Tea for Two" were written in his later years. "The Exiled Immortal" takes the tragic story of the heroine drifting to Venice and drowning herself as the first article in the "New Yorker" series of this book, and quotes Chen Zi'ang's "Song of Climbing the Youzhou Tower" as the postscript. Perhaps the author feels that Li Tong's final feeling of loneliness is as profound as "the vastness of the world".
