This book collects four novellas by Liao Jing, telling the stories of "I"—the family members of Dong Qiuchen. Each novel begins from the limited perspective of a single character, unfolding a portrait of the world surrounding the narrator's family and friends, forming a relatively complete system that can be read independently. At the same time, the plots of the four novels intertextualize one another, and the characters themselves emerge from the sidelines. Taken as a whole, they form a textual world that spans four generations in time and spans the north and south in space. These are also four stories about time: growth, separation, reunion, aging, and death...
