This book is Shui Gui's first collection of short stories in the form of notes. Many of the stories are drawn from historical allusions and interwoven with folklore to construct a suspended story world. It depicts the life of the underworld, the grassroots, the common people, and the lower classes in the 20th century, and explores the bizarre and strange nature born of poverty and hardship. It also touches on the lingering impact of material consciousness at the intersection of modern China and the West. It also recreates a bygone idyllic setting, untouched by modernity, a vivid and vivid experience that transports one back to the world of Jianghu. Shui Gui's writing, to some extent, shares a common thread with Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio and A New Account of Tales of the World. His language is minimalist, his narrative direct, yet intriguing and highly engaging, making it a truly enjoyable read.
