This book was adapted by a postdoctoral fellow in history at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences who has done some research on the history of gunpowder and is willing to popularize traditional cultural knowledge to children. The book unfolds a text narrative around the invention process of gunpowder, one of the four great inventions of ancient China, and is accompanied by new Chinese-style pictures. In the form of a picture book, it presents the stories of China's excellent traditional culture to children of the new era, telling them how gunpowder appeared, how it developed, and what impact it had on later generations and human civilization.
本书邀请对火药的历史有一定研究、愿意向儿童普及传统文化知识的中国社科院历史学博士后进行改编，围绕中国古代四大发明之一——火药的发明过程展开文本叙事，配以新式中国风格的图画，以图文绘本形式，重新向新时代儿童呈现中华优秀传统文化故事，向他们讲述火药是如何出现的、怎样发展的，对后世、对人类文明产生了怎样的影响。
