This book tells the story of: The Basement Man is a retired civil servant who is about 40 years old. His heart is full of morbid inferiority, but he often analyzes himself. The book is structurally divided into two parts: "The Basement" and "Because of the Wet Snow". The first part is a monologue of the basement man; the second part is a variation of the first part, which tells about the grievances between the basement man and a strange officer, the unpleasant past with old classmates, the humiliation he suffered at a farewell party for his classmates, and the ridiculous incident of meeting Lisa in a brothel and humiliating her. It ends with the cry of the basement man.
