This book focuses on the relationship between power competition among major powers, industrial policies and technological upgrading, and believes that power competition among major powers has led to major technological changes. The book focuses on analyzing the history of technological upgrading in the United States, the Soviet Union, Japan and other countries after World War II from the perspective of political economy, and also examines the impact of the competition for hegemony in Europe since the end of the 15th century, such as the Portuguese-Spanish competition, the Anglo-Dutch competition, and the Anglo-French competition on technological change, and also examines the experience of the history of technological change in ancient China.

本书聚焦大国间的权力竞争、产业政策与技术升级的关系, 认为大国间的权力竞争促成了重大技术变迁。书稿着重从政治经济学的角度分析二战后美、苏、日等国的技术升级史, 并兼顾考察了15世纪末以来的欧洲霸权竞逐史如葡西争强、英荷争霸、英法争霸等对技术变迁的影响, 还兼顾考察了古代中国技术变迁史的经验。
