The author, through his profession as a physician, interacted with people from all walks of life in Shanghai at the time, bringing him a wealth of life experience. His life was filled with ups and downs, and he faced numerous risks, but always emerged victorious. This book also fills a gap in the memories of ordinary Shanghainese during the fall of Shanghai. It describes the author's witnessing of the Japanese army's brutal acts of burning, killing, looting, and other atrocities after the fall of Shanghai, as well as his own personal experiences of ups and downs, joys and sorrows.
