This book is a novel that describes the rise and fall of two families over a century. Historically, the Tian and Wang families were both officials in the officialdom. Later, they were harmed by treacherous officials and began to flee. They ended up in a small mountain village in Huangyan, Taizhou, and thus began their century-long changes. In the work, the relationship between the descendants of the two families is complicated. Some joined the Communist Party and worked for the interests of the people; some joined the Kuomintang, worked for the anti-Japanese war, and later worked for Chiang Kai-shek's reactionary government.
