This book includes three novellas written by A Yuan, Flowers in the Mirror, Fireworks, and Floating Flowers, which depict the lives of three different women. A Yuan's novels are based on life, but they are not a copy or retelling of life, but are full of her imagination of life and characters in the novels. A Yuan admits that she wrote such a trilogy of women with a sense of "grieving their misfortune and hating their lack of struggle", and she is trying to express a female value through them: only women who are independent and self-reliant can break the fate of "beauty and misfortune" and gain "good fortune".
