This book tells the story of bugle cadet Chunlai, whose dream is to blow the charge on the battlefield, but he never gets the chance. Instead, he becomes a small fireman in the airport radar squad. Every day, he and his master, Uncle Tan, deliver food to a secret bunker in the mountains. Two boys, Tongsheng and Dagui, are fascinated by the bugle. Every night, they hide in the cellar to practice playing the bugle, and gradually become good friends with Chunlai.
