This book tells the story of Shi Xiaoshi, who becomes good friends with the cockatoos, groundhogs, and little snakes of Cradle Village. They are all afraid of the same forest—where an old witch lives. One day, by chance, Shi Xiaoshi enters the witch's forest. The witch takes her through her memories, back to the time of the little witch, revealing that the witch is not what the people of Cradle Village think. The witch has "trapped" herself in a world of ice and snow, but in the end, Shi Xiaoshi melts the ice in the witch's heart with his sincerity.
