This is a Russian novella set in St. Petersburg in midsummer, when the nights rarely turn completely dark, a phenomenon known as the "White Nights". The narrator of the novel is a young dreamer who wanders the streets of the city and encounters a seemingly melancholy young woman, Nastenka. Over the next four "White Nights", the narrator is deeply attracted to Nastenka's story and gradually falls in love with her. Although he knows that his love is unrequited, he still chooses to accompany Nastenka during those four sleepless nights, listening to her stories and giving her comfort and support. Through the description of the young couple's encounter, communication and separation, this book shows a deep sense of loneliness and longing for unfulfilled love.
