An outlying island refers to an island far away from the mainland and isolated from the world. Japan is not only Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hokkaido... Japan has more than 400 inhabited outlying islands. One out of every 200 Japanese lives on an outlying island. Writer Kuso spent three years alone visiting several of Japan's most remote islands, entering the little-known marginal areas of the island country. Goto, Sado, Oki...
