This manuscript is a social history work that explores China's modern transformation and development path since the late Qing Dynasty. It is a sister book of The Making of Modern China (1600-1949). The author believes that China's modernization is different from that of Western countries and contains its own historical and revolutionary traditions. With this argument as the core, the manuscript integrates geopolitics, finance, military, political identity and other lines, sorts out and analyzes the historical experience from the late Qing Dynasty to modern times. It has a broad vision and re-recognizes the problems of China's transformation and development since modern times; at the same time, from a global perspective, the author conducts horizontal comparisons between countries, conducts profound academic thinking on China's development path, criticizes the many limitations of Western modernization theory, and reveals China's own historical trajectory.
