This book aims to help second language learners improve their Chinese language proficiency and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through the Forbidden City, a treasure of Chinese culture. The book has a total of 8 cultural theme units, each unit revolving around a different cultural field of the Forbidden City, such as famous paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, gold and silver wares, four treasures of the study, silk fabrics, furniture and clocks. Each unit contains three major sections: language learning, cultural knowledge and handcraft experience. The language learning section is based on core Chinese characters, combined with relevant vocabulary, sentence patterns and text teaching, focusing on oral expression training, while taking into account the cultivation of reading and writing skills. The cultural knowledge section introduces learners to the relevant cultural background through in-depth and easy-to-understand reading materials to meet the needs of intermediate and advanced learners.
