*Rapid Improvement in Spoken Chinese* is a series of textbooks designed for short-term international students studying in China, primarily focused on developing their oral communication skills. Since its publication in 1999, it has been well-received by international students and teachers, and is currently one of the most advanced short-term intensive spoken Chinese textbook series. It is suitable for use in short-term classes at all levels, and can also be used as a textbook for general continuing education courses and for self-study. This revised fourth edition consists of seven volumes: *Introduction (Vols. 1 & 2)*, *Basic (Vols. 1 & 2)*, *Advanced*, *Intermediate*, and *General*. This volume, *Introduction*, is suitable for beginners and those just starting out. It contains 30 lessons, with lessons 1-5 covering pronunciation, forming a self-contained system for users to choose from. Lessons 6-30 are the main texts, covering the most commonly used vocabulary, sentence patterns, and basic communicative items in daily life and learning activities outlined in the vocabulary and grammar syllabus.
