This book is set in the forests of Northeast China during the War of Resistance Against Japan. The protagonist, Jiang, is a stable boy for a landlord. Unable to endure the landlord's mistreatment, he escapes to the deep mountains and joins the Anti-Japanese United Army, embarking on a new revolutionary journey. Under the guidance and education of his comrades and Uncle "Big Boots," he constantly trains himself in battle and gradually grows into an outstanding young soldier.
