This book introduces the basic methods of making temari (Japanese jelly balls) and analyzes patterns and color schemes from famous Chinese and foreign paintings, applying them to temari design. The book is divided into five parts: 1. Traditional Chinese Colors and Plant Dyeing; 2. Basic Knowledge of Temari Making; 3. Methods of Temari Making; 4. Temari Interpretations of Famous Chinese Paintings; 5. Temari Interpretations of Famous Foreign Paintings. The color schemes of the temari works in the book are derived from 20 famous Chinese and foreign paintings. Eight of the Chinese paintings are from the works themselves, including "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains," "The Preparing of Silk," "New Year's Day," "Pine and Crane for Longevity," and "Ladies Inscribing Poems on Red Leaves." Twelve of the foreign paintings are from works by Van Gogh ("The Starry Night" and "Roses"), Monet ("Water Lilies"), Renoir ("Chrysanthemums"), Klimt ("The Garden"), and Mondrian ("Composition with Red, White and Blue").
