The book tells the story of Cybele, who leaves her hometown to repair a music box she found, and travels a thousand miles to Vienna, following the address on the box. She finds the shop that sold the music box, but it's long since closed. She then approaches the owner, Frau Ostermeyer, but her eyesight is failing and she's unable to help. Frustrated, Cybele prepares to leave, but Frau Ostermeyer suddenly has an idea. Together, they go to the shop, where they'll find all the tools they need, and Frau Ostermeyer will show Cybele how to fix the music box. Meanwhile, customers start arriving.
