This book is the posthumous work of Peter Mayle, a renowned scholar of European political parties. For a long time, he observed a phenomenon: in the long-established democracies of Western Europe, voter turnout was declining; the number of members in major political parties was decreasing; and even those still affiliated with a party were losing political enthusiasm.
