The author of this book is William Powell Mason, a German musicologist, director of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, one of the collaborators on the Complete Works of Bach, and professor in the Department of Music at Harvard University. With the help of a wealth of previously unknown first-hand materials, he tells the story of Bach's life in chronological order, according to Bach's life experiences, making Bach's image no longer as abstract as it used to be.
