This novel, a long work based on the nomadic hunting lifestyle of the people in the Greater Khingan Mountains in ancient times, presents a magnificent historical period. The novel depicts the nearly century-long changes of four generations of a hunting family. In 1877, the old hunter Xiketeng discovered a gold mine, attracting illegal miners. He traded animal hides for weapons, but was cheated by unscrupulous merchants. Xiketeng avenged his people, ultimately perishing alongside the Russian invaders. His son, Egenti, led the family to migrate, continuing their nomadic hunting life. The novel focuses on Egenti's grandson, Morigen, growing into an excellent hunter. During the War of Resistance against Japan, Morigen, while rescuing anti-Japanese guerrillas, learned of the heroic struggle of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, strengthening his resolve to resist the Japanese invaders.
