This book revolves around the mystery of the fragments of "The Night Banquet," one of China's ten most famous paintings, and the bizarre disappearances of two painters. In 1993, in Yecheng, an ancient city in Lingnan, the painter Ye Mishan and the forger Wu Ge mysteriously disappeared on the same day. 25 years later, Xu Xilang, a down-on-his-luck cartoonist who gained some fame with his "Missing Persons" series, receives a mysterious commission to find Wu Ge, who disappeared from his rented apartment years ago. Xu Xilang discovers that the disappearances of Wu and Ye are both related to the theft of "The Night Banquet" from the Spring Gallery. After the gallery owner, Tang Yuanbao, is imprisoned, people connected to the case die one after another "accidentally," and a series of clues are hidden in Wu Ge's posthumous work, "Six Friends," and Ye Mishan's diary illustrations. As the investigation deepens, more perplexing mysteries emerge, and a long-standing case gradually comes to light.
