new work from the author of the Newbery Medal-winning *Ivan the Only One*, the story revolves around a tiny soldier bear born during World War I and a chivalrous cat who collects abandoned toys. Together, they give the toys a second chance at home. In this process, the toys rely on and accompany each other, bravely fighting against human greed. Ultimately, even the smallest life can warm the world with its kind heart. This is a story about love, friendship, loyalty, protection, and a second chance. Pocket Bear was born in Britain during World War I. Unlike other mass-produced plush bears, he was hand-sewn from head to toe. He was called "Soldier Bear" because during the war, a mother poured her longing for her son at the front into Pocket Bear. He was small enough to fit in a soldier's pocket. His glass eyes were slightly upturned, so that when soldiers missed home, they could look down and meet their hopes. After World War I, Pocket Bear, after a century of wandering, became the guardian of "A Second Chance Home for Abandoned Toys," living with his partner—a Robin Hood-like rogue cat—in the home of a girl named Dasha, mending the wounded hearts of abandoned plush toys. Dasha and her mother fled to America from the Ukrainian War. Due to the war, Dasha injured her leg but never had enough money for surgery. Despite this, they persisted in finding owners for every toy the rogue cat found. One night, the rogue cat dragged a camphor-smelling, rust-colored teddy bear from a restaurant's garbage dump, which Dasha named Bowen. He turned out to be the prototype for the original teddy bear that disappeared in a German shipwreck in the 1910s! This news attracted the covetous eyes of antique dealers. The dealers tied Bowen to the auction stage, attempting to sell him for a high price. When the auctioneer raised the gavel, the rogue cat leaped onto the stage, confronting human greed head-on. In the end, Bowen returned to the girl's arms. After careful consideration, the girl decided to donate Bowen to the museum as an exhibit. At the end of the story, the Pocket Bear volunteered to go to the museum to accompany Bowen on his exhibition. These two "enemies," who had witnessed two world wars, joined hands and went to the museum together to tell future generations a story of peace.
