This book is based on Gu Bingxin's 1977 illustration of "The Story of Xiangyang Courtyard," which was then recolored and redrawn by his son, Gu Ziyi, in 2025, achieving a cross-generational collaboration that allows readers to feel as if they are once again immersed in that passionate era. The story depicts a group of primary school students in a residential compound called "Xiangyang Courtyard" in Bozhou, Anhui Province, in 1964. Responding to the national government's call to "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng," and led by their off-campus tutor, retired worker Grandpa Shi, they participated in a variety of group activities during their summer vacation to support the construction of national highways. Throughout the story, the young boys, including Tiezhu, consistently upheld their conscience, firmly upheld justice, constantly challenged themselves, elevated their moral character, and gradually cultivated noble moral qualities and a strong sense of social responsibility.
