This book comprises twenty-eight chapters, narrating the origin, development, and evolution of ancient Chinese novels, beginning with myths and legends and ending with satirical novels of the late Qing Dynasty. *A Brief History of Chinese Fiction* pioneered the systematic study of novels as a specialized discipline, opening a new field in the study of ancient Chinese literature, establishing an independent system for the history of Chinese novels, and laying a solid foundation for its research. Mr. Lu Xun conducted extensive research and verification of historical materials, and based on this, he made many insightful, concise, and excellent comments. This manuscript is a facsimile of the 11th edition of *A Brief History of Chinese Fiction*, published by Beixin Bookstore in October 1936, the last edition produced during Lu Xun's lifetime.
