This book, the latest biography of Rilke, recounts the poet's extraordinary life from numerous perspectives across 28 chapters. It covers his unique family background and difficult self-identification, his observations and interactions with the world during different stages of his life and amidst changing circumstances, and his complex relationships with contemporaries and women who served as his muses. Drawing on a wealth of exclusive documents, the author meticulously examined Rilke's vast manuscripts, letters, and other primary materials, selecting the most valuable information to present a different image of the poet than traditionally held beliefs, building upon previous research.
